Chakra 5 - The Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is associated with the color blue and its Sanskrit name is Vissudha. Its symbol is represented by a lotus of 16 petals. The fifth chakra is the realm of choice and will. Every choice we make has a consequence. Sometimes, those consequences are “instant karma”, and we realize the power of our choices. When we say things like “it’s not my fault” or “I can’t help it”, we abdicate responsibility for our actions and responses.

Ultimately, we are responsible for how we respond (or, in most cases, how we react). When we truly realize our personal power, we then feel the weight of personal responsibility. The fifth chakra is between the “head and heart”, so to speak, and faith is often the bridge that helps us reconcile logic and emotion. This is also the area of our speech and self expression. When we learn to “speak up for ourselves” or “let our voice be heard”, we are operating out of the fifth chakra. Likewise, any obstruction to self expression will affect the areas associated with the fifth chakra.
